MMI-LV-001
MMI LaserVision-001
Industrial 3D vision unit that measures what it sees: distance, size and volume, in real time
- Measures distance, size and volume continuously: stockpiles, scrap, loads, parts on a conveyor
- Depth and colour fused in hardware, so the point cloud and the image describe the same instant
- Neural completion in the Metal Minds Platform fills every colour pixel with a distance and closes the geometry the sensor cannot see
- Ranges to 70 m and holds 1 cm accuracy under 100 kLux direct sunlight
- Wi-Fi, cellular or Ethernet backhaul; AC mains or Power over Ethernet
- Feeds Metal Minds AI modules directly, with no separate perception stack to build
Lead time 8–12 weeks

Overview
LaserVision-001 is the unit we ship when a site needs measurement rather than footage. An all-solid-state VCSEL and SPAD sensor stack produces a 3D depth stream, a full-HD colour channel captures the same scene, and a 6-DoF IMU tracks the unit’s own motion. All three are fused in hardware, before the data ever reaches a computer, so there is no software timestamp juggling and no calibration drift to chase after a few months on a vibrating structure.
What it measures is up to the site: the volume of a material stockpile, the dimensions of a single piece, how full a bucket or a railcar is, the clearance between a moving load and a structure. Anywhere the answer is a number rather than a picture, and where that number is needed continuously instead of once a shift.
It is built to live outdoors on an industrial site. The optics sit in a powder-coated aluminium enclosure with an integrated sun hood, the unit ranges to 70 m, keeps 1 cm accuracy under 100 kLux of direct sunlight, and operates from −20 °C to +60 °C. Backhaul is whatever the site already has: Wi-Fi, a cellular modem, or a single Ethernet run that also carries its power.
Perception
Three networks in the Metal Minds Platform work on this unit’s stream, in this order. They run in the Platform, not on the camera.
Object detection
Finds the object you care about in the frame and cuts it out from everything around it: the piece, not the pile behind it.
Depth densification
Gives every pixel of that object a distance, instead of only the points a laser beam happened to land on.
Shape completion
Reconstructs the far side and the occluded faces the sensor cannot see, closing the object into a full 3D model.
